Halal food in Tbilisi is becoming increasingly popular as Muslims in the city increasingly turn to it for sustenance. The availability and quality of halal food in the region has made it a go-to option for Muslims, as well as non-Muslims who are curious about what this type of food is all about.
Halal food is food that is permissible to eat under Islamic law. This includes food that has been processed in a way that does not involve any animal or vegetable products that have been forbidden by Islamic law.
Kosher food is also considered Halal and permissible for consumption by Muslims and that too is available in Tbilisi as Tbilisi also houses a Jewish community.
I have taken the liberty to divide the article into different cuisines and the Halal restaurants there are that offer that cuisine.
Fast Food
Starting off with fast-food, it is on the rise in Tbilisi as new restaurants and cafes are opening offering a huge roster to choose from along with the already existing big brands
KFC
The classic Kentucky Fried Chicken offers Halal fried chicken all over Tbilisi, from the classic fried chicken to new entries such as Pita sandwich, all are available in Halal options, but BEWARE of the “delux” burgers as they may contain bacon. My personal favorites are the Chef burger and Twister.
Prices range from 7.90 GEL for a Chef Burger to 40.90 GEL for their Wolt Special
Delivery for KFC is exclusively available on the Wolt app
Spectra
Spectra is one of the classic fast food restaurant in Tbilisi especially famous among the students. It offers a wide variety of dishes to choose from whether it be rice that you carve or sandwiches that you wish, you can check out their menu on their instagram page or on Bolt Food.
Prices range from 10 GEL for a sandwich to 20 GEL for their combos.
Delivery for spectra is exclusively available on Bolt Food.
Arabic Cuisine
Arab cuisine is rich, varied and very colorful with dishes that can be spicy or mild, with a variety of spices used. Typical ingredients include lamb, chicken, rice, couscous, tabbouleh, salad and pastries. When one thinks of Arabic cuisine the classic dishes that arguably may come to mind are Shawarma or Mandi.
Byblos
There is no one way to make shawarma but Byblos in Tbilisi is one of the restaurants that offers the most authentic middle-eastern flavoured shawarma I have tried in Tbilisi complete with the juicy succulent chicken wrapped in a toasted bread with thoum and pickles. Byblos restaurant in Tbilisi also offers a wide array of options such as middle-eastern style pizzas, mandi and grilled meats.
Prices range anywhere between 23 GEL for the shawarma plate to 90 GEL for the mix grill.
Delivery is unfortunately not available for Byblos at the moment.
Yemeni.
Yemeni restaurant in Tbilisi is another restaurant that is famous among the students and residents alike due to it’s outstanding flavour, service and the special price for students. The top seller without a doubt is their Chicken madhbi and I believe it is one of the best Chicken madhbi in Tbilisi. The meat is always soft and succulent and the rice are fragrant, and surprisingly it is one of the few restaurants that is open for 24 hours.
Prices range anywhere between 20 GEL for the chicken mandi to around 50 GEL for the mutton mandi.
Delivery is unfortunately unavailable at the moment.
Asian
When it comes to asian cuisine one can only imagine spices that uplift the dish and satisfy the taste buds, I will be listing both an East Asian restaurant and a South Asian restaurant in Tbilisi.
Yakudza
Yakudza in Tbilisi is one of the leading East Asian restaurant in Tbilisi, it offers both rice and noodle options with a wide variety of sauces and toppings to choose from, their chicken is Halal and I have personally confirmed it many times although I am not sure about the beef.
Prices range from anywhere between 13.90 GEL for chicken noodles to 20 GEL for their sushi platters.
Delivery for Yakudza is available through Wolt.
Taste Of India
Taste of India restaurant in Tbilisi is one of the best tasting Indian/desi cuisines I have come across in Tbilisi, whether it be their gravys or grill they are very well seasoned and cooked to perfection.
Prices range from anywhere between 13 GEL for their Tarka daal to around 20 GEL for their chicken biryani.
Delivery is available through Wolt and Glovo.
In conclusion:
Although it was difficult to come across Halal food outlets in Tbilisi, Halal food in Tbilisi has now become more accessible for eg: spectra, KFC, Byblos, Yemeni restaurant, Yakudze and Taste of India among many.
